McGowan joined the cast of Charmed in 2001 after Shannen Doherty left the series. With her deadpan delivery, ever-changing hair color and perfect body sheathed in barely-there fashions, she helped the show weather Doherty's departure and became a men's magazine staple. After the series was canceled in 2006, she returned to movies, notably playing two antithetical virgin/whore type roles in Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double feature Grindhouse. During filming, rumors circulated that she engaged in an affair with Rodriguez, who was married to his producing partner Elizabeth Avellan at the time.
